Bill Requiring Parental Approval For Sexually Explicit School Library Books Rejected In Richmond

(Richmond)- Legislation before the General Assembly would require written parental approval before a student is allowed to check out school library material considered sexually explicit. The bill would require every local school board to adopt new policies on the selection and evaluation of material in school libraries. The subcommittee voted 3-2 along party lines to advise the full Senate Education and Health Committee to kill the bill when it comes up for another vote later this session.
