(Richmond)- Juneteenth is now an official state holiday in Virginia. The holiday marks the day that enslaved African Americans were made free. This past June 19th, Governor Northam made it a state holiday just for this year but said he had wanted to make it a re-occurring event. The governor made the official announcement earlier this week saying it should be celebrated by all Virginians.
