(Henrico)- A mascot associated with the Confederacy is being removed from one Henrico school.  System officials said yesterday Freeman High School will retire the name “Rebels” and adopt a new mascot after a majority of survey respondents supported the change.  Freeman’s principal says they want to communicate the school is an inclusive, welcoming community.  The school is named after Douglas Southall Freeman, who wrote a Robert E. Lee biography that won a Pulitzer Prize.
