New Law Helps School Nurses Treat Opioid Overdoses

(Richmond)- A new law will make it easier for school nurses to save lives.  Governor Northam signed HB-2318 into law last week which gives school districts the ability to train school healthcare professionals to administer certain drugs like naloxone in the event of an opioid overdose.  The law goes into effect on July 1st.  According to the Virginia Department of Health, there were over 12-hundred deaths from opioid abuse statewide in 2017.
