*Alex LaSalle is a spiritual healer, educator, and a soulful Afro-Puerto Rican and Afro-Cuban singer with a near-photographic memory who has mastered hundreds of Bomba songs and who is recognized by elders of the Mayombe spiritual system as being amongst the top interpreters of the Kongo-Cuban mambos de Palo Mayombe. Over the last 28 years he has quickly become one of the leaders of this living spiritual tradition. A gifted singer and percussionist, Alex is the founder and musical director of NYC’s powerhouse bomba ensemble Alma Moyo. Alex has performed with a wide range of incredible acts like Grupo Folklórico Experimental Nueva Yorquino, he is an integral member of grammy-nominated Los Pleneros de la 21, has performed with William Cepeda’s Afro-Boricua and many other accomplished music groups. He is adept in rumba, música jibara, Plena, Palo Mayombe, Haitian rara, and a variety of other Afro-Caribbean genres. He is also a teaching artist for Caribbean Cultural Center, Citylore, and a variety of cultural arts education organizations throughout New York City. Alex holds over 25 years experience singing and drumming Afro-Caribbean folkloric music.
