The 68th Annual Potomac River Festival and Grand Feature Parade – June 5-9, 2019 The week begins with a carnival on Town Hill at the corner of Washington and Colonial Avenues starting Wednesday, June 5 and lasting throughout the festival.
On Friday night, June 7, the Fire and Rescue Parade comes down Washington Avenue. The historic parade begins at 7:30 and is called “the loudest parade in the Northern Neck”! The Friday night parade is followed by the Miss Colonial Beach pageant on Town Hill.
The Edna Lockwood will be docked at the Town Pier for the festival weekend. The recently restored Chesapeake Bay oyster boat is the only one of its kind. Anyone visiting the Pier can tour the upper deck for free. The boat is docked in Colonial Beach as part of a Chesapeake Maritime Museum history tour traveling the Potomac. She boasts her first female captain in the boat’s history.
The 68th Annual Potomac River Festival continues on Saturday and Sunday, June 8th and 9th with the Grand Feature Parade on Saturday, June 8th. The theme for 2019 is “There’s No Place Like Home” and the Grand Marshall is the Colonial Beach High School class of 1969.
The weekend activities also include the annual “Blessing of the Fleet and Boat Parade at 1:00 Sunday.
The Sunday Pet Parade on the Town Hill stage is at 2pm. You’ll even see a live bearded dragon!
DJ’d beach music during the day Saturday and Sunday and a Live Musician Jam Session on Saturday, June 8 from 6-9pm on the Town Hill Stage add the Soundtrack for the festival.
Food and craft vendors fill Town Hill at the corner of Washington and Colonial Avenues and include lots and lots of crafts, gifts, toys, clothing, jewelry, art and even a mobile escape room!
The brand new Colonial Beach radio station, WWER, will also be on Town Hill. Come meet the DJs!
The Kids’ Zone from 10am – 5pm on Saturday is sponsored by New Life – King George. Have fun at mini mini-golf, try your luck at toy crab races, get your face painted, get a temporary tattoo and play lots of fun games!
Town Hill is open to festival visitors beginning at 10am. The festival runs until 5pm Saturday and 3pm Sunday. After the daytime activities, go have dinner at a local restaurant or visit a local brewery. Then head back to Town Hill to enjoy the live music from 6-9pm on the outdoor stage before heading out to the Town Pier to see the fireworks!
