(Chester)- A central Virginia college could soon have a new name. A task force is recommending John Tyler Community College remove the former president’s name due to his ties to owning slaves and Confederacy support. The Chester school’s president said this summer that change must be enacted to ensure the college’s commitment to equity is a reality. The ultimate decision comes down to the State Board for Community Colleges.
