Marijuana Legalization Under Consideration In Virginia

(Richmond)- Virginia lawmakers are seriously considering legalizing marijuana.  Two bills were introduced yesterday in the legislature, one of which if passed would legalize recreational marijuana use for adults over the age of 21.  They both seek to eliminate criminal penalties for most cases of marijuana possession.  Governor Ralph Northam has supported decriminalizing weed; in 2017 he said that Virginia spends nearly 70-million-dollars on marijuana enforcement and pointed out that African Americans are nearly three-times more likely to be arrested for marijuana possession.
