Bill Being Considered To Beef Up Penalties For Failing To Move Over

(Richmond)- Virginia legislators are considering making move over laws tougher after a string of crashes involving Virginia drivers and emergency vehicles.  A Hanover fire lieutenant was killed last year when a tractor-trailer plowed into his fire truck parked on the shoulder of I-295.  His widow is trying to change the penalty and get drivers to pay more attention.  The fine for failing to move over is 250 dollars, but a House bill being considered would change failing to move over for emergency vehicles to reckless driving, punishable by a year in jail or a 25-hundred-dollar fine.
