VDOT HOT SPOTS IN THE FREDERICKSBURG DISTRICT

Interstate 95 (Exit 140/Courthouse Road)

Work is underway on a project to improve the I-95 interchange at Exit 140 (Route 630/Courthouse Road). The project includes building a diverging diamond interchange at Exit 140, relocating the Courthouse Road and Route 1 intersection to the south to align with Hospital Center Boulevard, and widening Courthouse Road to four lanes from Cedar Lane to Ramoth Church Road.

Interstate 95 Northbound at Exit 140:
(New) Tuesday — Wednesday, 9 p.m.- 4:30 a.m. Expect a single lane to close at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. to allow crews to install pavement markings, remove rumble strips and place asphalt. All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m.

Interstate 95 Southbound at Exit 140:
(New) Tuesday, 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. A single lane will close at 9 p.m. to allow crews to mill out rumble strips and place asphalt.
(New) Wednesday — Friday, 10 p.m.- 4:30 a.m. Expect a double lane closure at 10 p.m. to allow crews to install pavement markings. All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m.

Route 630 (Courthouse Road)
(Update) Tuesday – Thursday, 8:30 a.m. ˗˗ 2 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m. ˗˗ 12 p.m. Courthouse Road will be reduced to one lane from Austin Ridge Drive to Red Oak Drive. Crews will be working near the I-95/Exit 140 interchange.
(Update) Tuesday – Thursday, 8:30 a.m. ˗˗ 2 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m. ˗ 12 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Courthouse Road between Cedar Lane and Walpole Street for grading and pipe work as part of the widening project.

Ramoth Church Road at Courthouse Road
(New) Monday – Thursday, 8:30 a.m. ˗˗ 2 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m. ˗ 12 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Ramoth Church Road between Courthouse Road and Cutstone Drive. Flaggers will direct drivers in the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Woodcutters Road at Courthouse Road
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 2 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. ˗ 12 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on Woodcutters Road between Courthouse Road and Cutstone Drive. Expect brief delays.

Winding Creek Road at Courthouse Road
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 2 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. ˗ 12 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Winding Creek Road for grading and pipe work as part of the widening project. Flaggers will direct drivers through the interchange and work zone. Expect brief delays.

Interstate 95 Bridge Rehabilitation Project

Work is underway to improve the deck and substructure on several bridges located on I-95 in Stafford and Spotsylvania.

Stafford County: I-95 Bridge over Potomac Creek at mile marker 137
The I-95 bridges over Potomac Creek are located just before Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) at mile marker 137.
• I-95 Southbound:
 Monday – Friday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 10 a.m.
 9 p.m. – one lane closed
 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. – two lanes closed
 4:30 a.m. ˗˗ 10 a.m. A single lane will remain closed until 10 a.m. the following morning except on Friday when all lanes will reopen by 6 a.m.
Interstate 95 Exit 130/Route 3/Fredericksburg Interchange Improvement Project

Construction is underway to improve safety on Interstate 95 and Route 3 at the Exit 130 interchange in Fredericksburg. Motorists should be prepared for the following lane closures, construction activity, and temporary traffic shifts on Route 3, I-95 at Exit 130 and/or Central Park shopping area.

Route 3 Westbound
(Update) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 9 a.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on Route 3 westbound near the interchange.

Route 3 Eastbound
(Update) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 4 a.m. Expect a single left lane and shoulder to be closed on Route 3 eastbound near Carl D. Silver Parkway.

Carl D. Silver Parkway
(Update) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 9 a.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on Carl D. Silver Parkway southbound at the Route 3 intersection.

Interstate 95 at Exit 118/Mudd Tavern Road Widening and Bridge Replacement Project

Crews are working to improve the interchange on Interstate 95 at Exit 118 (Mudd Tavern Road). The project will build a new I-95 overpass and improve on and off-ramps on Mudd Tavern Road, improve Mudd Tavern Road east of I-95, and Mallard Road.

Interstate 95 Northbound at Exit 118
(Update) Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. Expect a single, left lane on I-95 northbound closed at the interchange. Expect brief delays.

Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road)
(Update) Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Wednesday – Saturday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road) at the I-95 overpass for storm sewer installation. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Mallard Road
Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Mallard Road for storm sewer installation. Motorists should expect brief delays. Flaggers will direct drivers through the work zone.

Districtwide Flashing Yellow Arrow Project
(Update) Sunday – Friday, 7 p.m. – 5 a.m. Crews will be working at the following intersections to install flashing yellow arrows at several traffic signals in the Fredericksburg District to help drivers turn left safely against oncoming traffic. Flaggers will direct drivers through the intersection. Virginia State Police will also assist with traffic control. Expect brief delays near the following intersections.

Route 3/Blue and Gray Flyover
(New) Tuesday – Thursday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. Expect single, alternating lane closures on Route 3 westbound on the Blue and Gray Flyover for bridge repairs. Expect brief delays.

Route 616 (Poplar Road)
(Update) Tuesday – Thursday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Route 616/Poplar Road between Route 646/Tackett’s Mill Road and Route 612/Hartwood Road for pavement patching. Flaggers will direct traffic in the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Route 8900 (Centreport Parkway)
(New) Thursday – Friday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. Expect single, alternating lane closures on Centreport Parkway near the bridge approaches and on the bridges over I-95 for repairs. Expect brief delays.

Routine Maintenance
Monday − Friday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:

• Route 635 (Decatur Road) – pothole patching
• Route 1526 (Choptank Road) – pipe repairs
• Route 1526 (Bertram Boulevard) – pipe repairs

City of Fredericksburg Work Zone

Route 1
(New) Monday ˗˗ Friday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 5 a.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on southbound Route 1 near Wallace Street for traffic engineering work. Expect brief delays.

Spotsylvania County Work Zone

Route 609 (Jim Morris Road)
(Update) Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Route 609 (Jim Morris Road) between Route 17 (Mills Drive) and Patriot Lane for pipe work. Access to driveways will be maintained for residents who live in this section of Jim Morris Road. Flaggers will direct traffic through the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Route 609 (Thornton Rolling Road)
(Update) Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Route 609 (Thornton Rolling Road) between Route 17 (Mills Drive) and Patriot Lane for pipe work. Access to driveways will be maintained for residents who live in this section of Thornton Rolling Road. Flaggers will direct traffic through the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Route 612 (Catharpin Road)
(Update) Tuesday – Wednesday, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Route 612/Catharpin Road near Route 608/Robert E. Lee Drive and Route 613/Brock Road for pavement patching. Flaggers will direct traffic in the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Route 621 (Orange Plank Road)
(New) Thursday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. Expect alternating, one-way traffic on Route 621/Orange Plank Road near Route 611/Windy Acres Drive and Route 613/Brock Road for pavement patching. Flaggers will direct traffic in the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Routine Maintenance
Monday − Friday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:

• Route 605 (Swift Road) – pothole patching

Route 207 (Rogers Clark Boulevard)
(New) Wednesday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Expect alternating, single lane closures on Route 207/Rogers Clark Boulevard at the bridge near Colemans Mill Road for bridge inspection work. Expect brief delays on the bridge and near the bridge approaches.

Routine Maintenance
Monday − Friday, 6 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Stay alert for mobile lane closures. Crews will perform routine maintenance activities at the following locations:

King William County Work Zone

Route 360 (Richmond-Tappahannock Highway)
(New) Wednesday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Expect a single lane on Route 360/Richmond-Tappahannock Highway to be closed on the bridge over Moncuin Creek. Expect brief delays.

Route 604 (Herring Creek Road) CLOSED
(Update) Herring Creek Road is closed to through traffic between Route 628 (Dorrell Road) and Route 609 (Smokey Road) to allow crews to remove deteriorated corrugated metal pipes from underneath the road near Dorrell Creek. Crews will then install new concrete pipes and endwalls. Signs are posted along the recommended detour, which is approximately eight miles: Rt. 609/Smokey Road, Rt. 608/Locust Hill Road and Rt. 628/Dorrell Road. Weather permitting, work is expected to be complete and the road will reopen to traffic on Wednesday, May 2.

Mathews County Work Zone

Route 14 (Main Street)
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. A single lane on Route 14/Main Street will be closed between Church Street and Buckley Hall Road to allow crews to install new drainage pipes underneath the road as part of the Mathews Courthouse Area Drainage Project. A flagging crew will alternate, one-way traffic through the work zone. Expect brief delays.

Richmond County Work Zone

Route 3 at Route 608 (Farnham Creek Road)
Monday˗˗ Friday, 7 a.m. –6 p.m. Temporary traffic signals have been activated in the work zone of an ongoing emergency pipe improvement project on Route 3 over Laton’s Swamp. Route 3 has been reduced to a single lane just west of the intersection with Route 608 (Farnham Creek Road). The temporary traffic signals control one-way, alternating traffic in the work zone until the project is complete. Project completion is May 29, 2018.
