(Spotsylvania)- The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the PETCO Foundation. The grant will be utilized to support the Sheriff’s Animal Control Division, and its operation of the feral cat population program, spay/neuter services and adoptions.

The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Animal Shelter is working on getting an expanded, more modern facility in which to house the animals, until they can be adopted out to caring families. Division commander, Captain Willie Tydings says, “The PETCO Foundation investment has allowed us to make a big impact within the community, while addressing several of our animal control program concerns. Thus far, there has been a great deal of positive interest in the project and the impact on the feral cat population has been very impressive.”

Sheriff Harris: “This grant will help increase services to our population, without added tax stress on the public. It is essential that we care for all aspects of our community, including feral cats, pet adoptions, and spay and neuter services.”
